A septuagenarian woman was slaughtered allegedly by her son over a trifling matter at Sonakur village in Shalikha upazila on Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Rizia Begum, 70, wife of Moksed Ali Biswas, a resident of the village.
Quoting locals, Officer-in-charge of Shalikha Police Station Abu Zihad said Rizia locked in an altercation with her son Banu Biswas, 36, over sharing paddy around 3pm.
At one stage, Banu took his mother inside a room and slaughtered the elderly women, leaving her dead on the spot.
Later, local people caught Banu and handed him over to police. A case was filed in this connection, the OC added.
