Staff Reporter :A Dhaka court on Friday placed Mahfuza Malek Jesmine on a five-day remand in a case filed against her on charge of killing her two children at their Banasree residence in the capital.Metropolitan Magistrate Snigdha Rani Chakraborty passed the order yesterday afternoon after police produced Mahfuza in the court with a 10-day remand prayer in the killing case.Mustafizur Rahman, Inspector (investigation) of Rampura Police Station, moved the petition to the court around 1:30pm.The two Banasree siblings were killed by their own mother out of her “concerns about their future”, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) yesterday claimed citing primary interrogation. She first strangled her daughter Nusrat and then son Alvi at their apartment, RAB Media Wing Director Commander Mufti Mahmud Khan told a press briefing at the force’s headquarters on Thursday.Nusrat Aman Aroni, 14, and her brother Alvi Aman, 6, were found unconscious in their apartment on Monday afternoon. They were declared dead in the evening at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. At the time, family members claimed that the children had fallen asleep after eating leftover Chinese food for lunch and did not wake up.Conflicting accounts of the incident given by the parents and family members led forensics experts on Wednesday to suspect that the two siblings from Dhaka’s Banasree neighbourhood might have been murdered.Mahfuza’s decision to stay at home while her children were taken to a nearby hospital was described by investigators as “unusual and suspicious.”The result of post-mortem examinations at Dhaka Medical College hinted foul play.Injury marks were found on the children’s necks. The boy also had injury marks on his legs and his sister had eye injuries.Father of the victims Amanullah filed a murder case against Mahfuza on Thursday night.
