Mother gets back her new-born due toLaw Minister’s humanitarian help

With the help of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul, a mother named Anjula Begum who sold her new-born baby for Taka 16,000 to pay her medical bill, has got the baby back.
The incident took place on September 15 while Anjula Begum’s husband Shajahan Mia took her to a local clinic in Gaibandha where she gave birth but later had to sell to pay her medical bill.
This news was published in an English daily on Saturday that drew the attention of the law minister.
The minister immediately contacted the district administration of Gaibandha and requested to return the money as well as return the newborn to his mother’s lap, a press release said here on Sunday.
At the request of the law minister, the Gaibandha district administration rescued the newborn from Sadullapur upazila of the district on Saturday and returned it to mother Anjula Begum.
At the same time, the district administration gave 20 kilogram (kg) of rice, 2 kg of pulse, 2 liters of soybean oil, a saree, a lungi and Tk 2,000 in cash to Anjula Begum.
Besides, arrangements were made to send Tk 16,000 from the personal funds of the law minister to the district administration of Gaibandha on Sunday to give the money that was taken to pay the bill at the clinic.
Faridul Haque Sohel, owner of Jamuna Clinic in Gaibandha, said that Anjula Begum was admitted to his clinic on September 15 at around 12:15 pm to give birth to her fourth child and she gave birth to a son by caesarean section at around 1:00 pm. Anjula was released from the clinic in the evening on September 18 after paying the bill, he added.
