Mother fish has laid sample eggs in Halda river, the only natural fish breeding center in the country.
Hathazari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Ruhul Amin said mother fish spawned in the river at midnight on Tuesday (May 25). He said he called a fisherman at night and told him that the mother fish had laid a sample egg. We also inspected immediately. If the weather is favorable, the mother fish will lay eggs.
According to the fry collectors, after midnight, mother fish spawned in different areas including Haldar Azim’s Ghata, Barber’s Ghona, Sluicegate, Mashua Ghona, Noahat.

Shah Alam, a fisherman who collects fry, said that every year from Chaitra in the month of Baishakh on the date of new moon or full moon, when there is a strong current of rain, mother fish lays eggs in Halda river. But there was not much rain this year. However, in the hope of eggs, pona harvesters are waiting on the banks of the Halda.
Local Kamal Saudagar, Ashu Barua and Abdul Quader said the mother fish would lay eggs at any time after laying the sample eggs. We spent the whole night on the banks of the Haldar. The mother fish did not lay eggs. However, some specimens have laid eggs. If we give sample eggs, we think mother fish will release eggs. They may lay eggs tonight (Wednesday) or tomorrow.
