A mother and her baby daughter were killed on the spot and two others injured when a speeding truck knocked down their auto-rickshaw at Kharkhori crossing under Matiher Police station in the city yesterday noon, police sources said.
The deceased were identified as Babita, 40, wife of Ibrahim Hossain and their daughter Raima, 3. The injured persons, Ibrahim Hossain, 45, and auto-rickshaw driver Siddique Hossain, 40, were admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital with serious injuries.
Quoting locals Md Quamruzzaman, Sub-Inspector of Police of Motiher Police Station, said the family members were heading towards their residence at Kukhundi under same police station after Eid-shopping.
When they reached the Kharkhori crossing a truck coming from opposite direction dashed their auto-rickshaw around 12.45 pm.
Police recovered the bodies and a case was recorded with the police station.
