A woman and her minor baby were hacked to death by unidentified miscreants at East Bashikpur village in Fulgazi Upazila of Feni district on Wednesday morning.
The victims are Fatema Sathi, 25, and her 4-year old daughter Shantika Islam Isma.
After receiving information, Police recovered the bodies lying in a pool of blood and sent to Feni
Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, said SM Jahangir Alam Sarkar, Superintendent of Police (SP) quoting locals.
“From Wednesday afternoon, their door was shut and there was no movement in and around the house. Later, the relatives and neighbours went to the house and found the dead bodies,” the Police official said.
Fatema was perhaps stabbed to death while her daughter Isma strangled, the SP said.
“Fatema along with Isma used to live with her mother Hosne Ara Begum at East Bashikpur village since her separation from her husband a few months ago.The mother and daughter were last seen on Wednesday afternoon,” he said.
Fatema’s sister Ayesha Koli Uaimel though Fatema’s former husband Shahadat Hossain Rimon, 35, is in jail, he may have planned the murders.
“Sathi and Shahadat got married about seven years ago,” said Fatema’s mother Hosne Ara Begum, who was not at home during the incident as she went to visit her younger daughter.
“Since the wedding, Ripon was involved in criminal activity and made accused in around a dozen of cases,” she said.
“After much struggle, Fatema finally asked him for a divorce. Ripon became infuriated and gave threats. Though he was arrested on a kidnapping charge, his friends continued to give threats.”
Two persons have been detained in connection with the murders, said Fulgazi Police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) MM Morshed.
Hosne Ara Begum filed a case with the police station in this connection, the OC said.
