At least three persons including a mother and her child and a union parishad (UP) member were killed and 15 others injured in a road accident at Sadar Upazila here early Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Razia Begum, wife of Amiruzzaman of Notun Bazaar Boro Dail Rastar Matha under Moheshkhali Upazila, her two-year-old son Sagor Uddin, and Kamal Uddin, member of no. 7 ward under Palongkhali Union in Ukhia Upazila.
The injured could not be identified immediately.
Mujibur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Ramu Tulabagan Highway Police Station, said driver of a Shyamoli Paribahan bus bound for Cox’s Bazar lost its control in a bid to save a mad man and fell into a ditch beside the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar Highway at Dhalar Duar area of Eidgaon Islamabad under Ramu Upazila.
As a result, 18 passengers were injured and admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital. Of them, the three died under treatment early Sunday.
Police seized the bus, added the OC.
