Mother attempted to kill daughter committed suicide on Monday noon at Kawnia branch road area of the city.
Kazi Mahbubur Rahman, Kawnia police station officer in charge, said Lipi Biswas, 31, wife of fish trader Binod Biswas, at her residence tried to kill daughter Preeti Biswas, 5, by strangling tying scarf on neck.
Hearing hue and cry of Preeti local people rushed to the spot rescued the daughter from the grip of her agitated mother and sent to hospital.
In the mean time mother Lipi Biswas closing the door committed suicide hanging herself from the roof of the room.
Police rushed to the spot sent body of Lipi to Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital, but attending doctor declared her as dead.
Dead body of Lipi sent to morgue for autopsy lodging a case of unnatural death, police sources said.
AKM Mortuza Abedin, local ward councilor, quoting family sources said the family was tenant of Minu Ganguly of the area and husband Binod Biswas, who was absent at home during the incident, claimed that Lipi was suffering from mental disease since long days.
