Mother Lipi Akhtar (30) arrested from Shayestabad area of the city for killing daughter Tanni Akhtar (13) by suffocating after victim saw her extramarital relationship.
This information was confirmed by Deputy Commissioner (North) of Barishal Metropolitan Police (BMP) Mohammad Zakir Hossain Majumder in a written press conference at Kaunia Police Station of the city on Saturday (June 4) at 12 noon.
Police sources said arrested mother Lipi Akhtar (30) is the wife of Sohrab Hawlader, a fisherman and resident of Chhota Rajapur village in Sayestabad union under of Barishal Sadar upazila.
The DC of BMP further said that Tanni Akhtar (13), fisherman Kabir Khan, son of Nuru Khan of Ramkathi village of the same union had an extramarital affair with Lipi Akhter, wife of another fisherman Sohrab Hawladar of the same union under Kaunia police station of Barishal city.
On May 27 afternoon Tanni Akhtar (13), daughter of Lipi Akhtar, witnessed an estranged affair of her mother with Kabir Khan.
At that time, when daughter Tanni Akhtar threatened her mother about telling the fact to her father, then mother Lipi Akhtar and her boyfriend Kabir Khan strangled Tanni to death by wrapping a towel around her face and neck.
After confirming the murder, Tanni was hanged from the roof of the house tying a rope around her neck and mother Lipi Akhtar told the locals that Tanni committed suicide.
Police sent the dead body for autopsy lodging a case of unnatural death with Kaunia Police Station on May 27 over the incident.
Later, under the direction of DC (north) of BMP Mohammad Zakir Hossain Majumder, Kaunia police station officer in charge (investigation) Sagir Hossain started investigating the case and revealed the mystery of the death of Tanni Akhtar.
Then Tanni’s father Sohrab Hawlader has filed a murder case (case No. 3) as a plaintiff against his wife Lipi Aktar and her boy friend Kabir Khan and arrested killer mother.
The detained mother also confessed about the crime and has been sent to court on Saturday and trying to arrest her co-killer.
At the press conference Rabiaul Islam Shamim, assistant commissioner of police (BMP), Kaunia Zone, and HM Abdur Rahman Mukul, officer-in-charge of Kaunia Police Station were also present.
