As Bangladesh is the second largest apparel exporting country, it has also made some enemies, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed told this at the Jatiya Sangsad responding to a question from AKM Jahangir Hossain.
The US has put 16 conditions to restore GSP facilities of which most of the conditions have been met, he said.
He expressed the hope that three of the major conditions would be met within this month. As per the conditions 200 inspectors would be appointed for inspection of garment factories.
Besides, trade union right in EPZ has been agreed in principal he said adding it would require certain changes in labour laws. He further said, the government would ensure the full database of the garment factories within this month.
He was critical of some foreign countries for their excess pressure in this regard.
The Commerce Minister also said that a total of 37 countries, including 27 member states of the European Union (EU), are giving duty free market access to Bangladesh products.
