Most essential commodities prices on uptrend

The prices of the most essential commodities like onion, garlic, ginger are on uptrend in the city’s kitchen markets.
The price of onion has increased by Tk 10 per kg. Besides, the price of garlic has gone up by Tk 20 per kg and ginger by Tk 30-60 per kg. The prices of fruits and vegetables are also higher than before. The price of chicken has increased by Tk 10 per kg.
The information was obtained by visiting various markets in the capital on Friday.
For the last few months, onions were being sold at Tk 30 to Tk 45 per kg. But now the price has gone up anew. Prices of local and imported onions have also gone up. The price of imported onion has increased by Tk 10 per kg to Tk 40 to Tk 45 per kg and local onion is being sold at Tk 50- Tk 55 per kg.
The price of ginger has gone up to Tk 250 per kg in a week. However, in some markets, ginger was selling at Tk 200 per kg. But even a week ago, ginger was sold at Tk 180 per kg in those markets. At the same time, local garlic is being sold at Tk 100 to Tk 120 per kg and the price of imported garlic has increased by Tk 70 to Tk 80.
Maqbool Hossain, a trader in Karwan Bazar, said that local ginger is not available in the market now as half of the available stock has already perished. That is why the market is dependent on imported ginger and the price of ginger is increasing almost every day.
Meanwhile, broiler chickens are being sold at Tk 130 to Tk 135 per kg rising from last week’s price of Tk 120 to 125. Irfan Hossain, a chicken trader in Karwan Bazar, said broiler chickens were being sold at lower prices since Eid. But now the price of broiler has gone up a lot in wholesale market. So it has to be sold at a slightly higher price.
Besides, red layer chicken is being sold at Tk 220 and white layer chicken at Tk 180 per kg. Golden chicken is being sold at Tk 240 to 250 per kg and local chicken at Tk 550 per kg.
However, the prices of beef and mutton have shown slightly downward trend. Beef is being sold at Tk 500-550 per kg and mutton at Tk 700-750 per kg in different markets. As far as prices of eggs are concerned, broiler eggs are being sold at Tk 110-115, domestic chicken eggs at Tk 150- Tk 160 and duck eggs at Tk 130 to Tk 140 per dozen.
Meanwhile, all kinds of fruits and vegetables are being sold at higher prices. Balsam apple is being sold at Tk 90- Tk 100, pointed gourd at Tk 50- Tk 60, brinjal Tk 80- Tk 90 and potato at Tk 35 per kg. Per kg of asparagus bean is being sold at Tk 70- Tk 80, snake gourd at Tk 50- Tk 60, rige gourd at Tk 60- Tk 70 and sweet bitter gourd at Tk 50- Tk 60. Furthermore, ripe tomatoes are being sold at Tk 110-120 per kg, hybrid cucumbers at Tk 40-Tk 50 and carrots at Tk 80-90 per kg.
