Staff Reporter :
The two city corporations spend about Tk 1.93 crore every month to kill and check the breeding of mosquitoes, but the ‘mosquito menace’ continues to the dismay of the residents.
Residents alleged that the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) did not spray anti-mosquito medicine regularly.
Residents of Hazaribagh, Mohammadpur, Lalbagh, Goran, Khilgaon, Badda and others say that they have to use mosquito nets and coils, even, at daytime to save themselves from mosquitoes’ bite.
The two corporations allocated Tk 23.5 crore in their budgets for fiscal year 2014-15 for the purpose.
DSCC allocated Tk 14.5 crore and DNCC of Tk nine crore. On average, it is estimated Tk 1.93 crore is expended very month in this regard.
It is mandatory to spray medicine from 8:00am to 11:00am to destroy mosquitoes, and between 5:00 pm and 7:oopm to kill eggs. But the corporations do not perform their duties properly.
DNCC Chief Health Officer Brigadier General AKM Masud Hasan rejecting the allegation told a news agency that they were doing their work properly to destroy mosquitoes.
DSCC Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Mahbubur Rahman said similarly.
