Mosquito menace at JU dorms alarming

Students, teachers and employees of Jahangirnagar University (JU) students are now experiencing boundless sufferings as mosquito tyranny erupted in the recent days.
All the male and female dorms are in the acute problem as the sufferers are to set mosquito-curtain at the day-time also, otherwise they burning coil whole the day.
Especially from the early evening to late night, JU dormitories become a safe haven for the mosquitoes which interrupts the normalcies, source said.
Even, general students have to use mosquito coils at JU central libraries after the evening to escape from this prevalence.
This condition often led to largely hampering the academic activities of the students as final examination of maximum department is going on.
Expressing deep concern residential student of AFM Kamaluddin hall, Shovon Ahmed said,’Not only our study but also our regular activities are barred due to provoked mosquito tyranny. Even, there is no places to sit in relax there on the whole campus for a single minute after the evening’.
A firsthand report reveals that, there is huge dirt beside all the infrastructures including the residential dorms, library and academic buildings.
Moreover, drains, surrounding the dorms are immensely dirty and water of the lakes and ponds are polluted.
The spaces beside the halls have not been being cleaned for a long time those turned jungles are helping mosquitoes to propagate rapidly.
On the other hand, the brushwood are here and there on the campus and the water-reservoirs are full of dirt those turned breeding center of the mosquito.
In this regard the students demand to the university authority is to resolve this situation as early as possible.
Prominent Mosquito researcher of JU Zoology Department Professor Dr. Kabirul Bashar said, during the winter season, the eggs of the mosquitoes remains dormant while it hatch out at the end of the winter. This is the main reasons of the prevalence of mosquito right now.
