M.O. Faruque, Savar :

Mosquito infestation in different areas of Savar Municipality has become difficult to survive. Even if you close the doors and windows of the house, there is no relief. Everyone from children to the elderly has become restless due to mosquito bites. No one is immune from mosquito attack in different places including homes, educational and business establishments and offices. Mosquito coils, sprays, everything is using to get rid of mosquitoes. Besides, the locals think that the spread of mosquitoes has reached its peak due to the lack of mosquito eradication activities in the municipality.
Locals complained that the mosquito infestation has recently increased due to the accumulation of dirty water in the municipal drains, not cleaning regularly and dumping of garbage everywhere. Citizens are at risk of contracting various mosquito-borne diseases including dengue.
Makibuddin Suel, a resident of Shahibaug area, said that mosquito infestation is increasing in the evening. Mosquito infestation has been on the rise for some time now. There is no peace anywhere inside or outside the house. No staff of the municipality was seen spraying drugs to kill the mosquitoes. Mosquitoes have increased in this opportunity. Mosquitoes are swarming in swarms, especially when you are standing outside the house in the evening. You can’t survive at home without a mosquito net.
Mahadir Omor Fahad, a resident of Genda area, said that the citizens have become restless due to the increase in mosquito infestation. This problem has arisen because the municipal authorities have not sprayed mosquito repellent in the drains. If regular mosquito repellent drugs were applied, the citizens might not have to suffer. Although the mosquito infestation has recently increased in the city, the municipal authorities are not taking any action.
Savar Municipal Mayor Haji Abdul Gani said that they can’t find any new idea about mosquito control.” Pesticides are also failing. Mosquitoes are becoming more and more resistant to pesticides. So now we have to do something new. Ineffective mosquitoes are very much repellent. We are working to ensure the most effective mosquito eradication initiative before the dengue epidemic takes the form of an epidemic.
