Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sheikh Fazle Nur Taposh has announced that mosquito would be eradicated from the capital within just two weeks. He urged all the city dwellers to be patient at this time.
Mayor Taposh told the reporters after inaugurating the Panthakunj Secondary Transfer Center in the Panthapath area of the capital on Wednesday afternoon.
Actually experts suggested us looking after at Aedes issue. So the pesticides for Culex were not sprayed properly. However a crackdown drive against mosquitoes will begin very soon, said DSCC mayor.
It is noticeable that mosquito infestation has suddenly increased in the capital city even before the drive started.
Besides, there are also doubts about the quality of medicines and pesticides as to whether those are used to kill mosquitoes.
Even there are also allegations of not spraying drugs or pesticides regularly.
According to the researchers, the number of mosquitoes in Dhaka has quadrupled in five years. In this situation, the DSCC mayor went out to inspect the activities of the city corporation. At that time the local government minister was also present.
Meanwhile, in response to a question from reporters, Local Government Minister Tajul Islam admitted that the harassment of Culex has been increased seriously in the city.
The two city corporations have been instructed to kill mosquitoes quickly, Minister said.
He also said that if the canals are cleaned, the mosquito infestation will be decreased.
Responding to a question from reporters at the time, Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh said, “Since there was a serious outbreak of dengue, we were alert on that issue. That strategy was wrong to continue the activity till December. With the stalk of winter in our country, effective action should have been taken against Culex mosquitoes, but we couldn’t.
However, we are hopeful that Culex mosquitoes will be brought under control in the next two weeks.
Apart from, the anti-dengue activities will start from April again, mayor said.
Mentionable that DNCC is thinking of using drones to kill mosquitoes though there is a proverb that “to crush a butterfly on a wheel”.
Sources said that this arrangement is to provide pesticides in some places like canals and lake areas of the capital where it is not possible to spray medicine in the traditional way.
