Local Government, Rural Development (LGRD) and Cooperatives Minister Engineer Khondker Mosharraf Hossain on Wednesday said the government has taken various initiatives to make district parishad a people welfare-oriented local government body.
Newly elected chairmen of the district parishad have to work sincerely and honestly for the well-being of the people, he told a meeting at the Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE) at Kakrail in the city, an official release said. Senior officials of Local Government Division (LGD) and DPHE were present at the function with LGD Secretary Abdul Malek in the chair.
The minister also urged the chairmen to make the district more pro-people local government body by achieving people’s confidence.
He said the government is working to strengthen democracy through empowering local government bodies.
He also urged the chairmen to implement the programmes and development schemes within the scheduled time to expedite development process in the country.
