Retired Senior Secretary Mosharaf Hossain Bhuyan has been made Chairman National Board of Revenue (NBR) on Wednesday.
The Public Administration Ministry appointed him the NBR chairman and issued the notification.
Retired Senior Secretary of Ministry of Industries Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan has been appointed as the new Chairman of National Board of Revenue (NBR).
Senior Assistant Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration Mohammad Abdul Latif signed the notification, saying that the former senior secretary of the Ministry of Industries Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan for the next two years from the date of joining as Chairman of NBR.
On Sunday, Senior Secretary and NBR Chairman Najibur Rahman had been appointed as Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister.
The NBR, an agency under the Ministry of Finance, is engaged in the overall revenue management of the government. The revenue generated by the NBR is the single largest source of internal resources to implement the country’s budget.
The main duty of the NBR is to impose and collect duty. Apart from that formulation of the customs policy, Anti-Smuggling law and framing rules are the major duties of NBR Chairman.
Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan was born on July 1, 1957. His village is in Balasair, Sadar upazila of Narsingdi district. Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan joined the Ministry of Industries on October 26, 2014. On April 11, 2016, he became the senior secretary.
On June 30 2017, Musharraf was scheduled to leave for the holidays (PRL). But by canceling PRL, the government appointed him as senior secretary of the Ministry of Industries for a year.
Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, a BCS Cadre of 1981 batch had started his career as an Assistant Controller of Military Accounts in the Audit and Accounts Department on 30 January 1981.
At the primary stage of his career, he had worked in various offices under the Defense, Finance Department and the Comptroller and Auditor General.
Besides, he had worked as the Additional Director General of the Bangladesh Water Development Board as Deputy Secretary, Joint Secretary and Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Education, Local Government and Finance Ministry.
Mosharraf Hossain was appointed on 3 February 2010 as the Acting Secretary of the Department of Road Transport and Bridge (the Ministry of Communications). On July 29, 2010, he was promoted to the position of Secretary. Besides, he had also served as Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority (BEZA) and member of the Privatization Commission.
