BSS, Dhaka :
Walton Central Zone made giant stride towards Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) one-day format final, securing their second straight victory on Tuesday at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
Skipper Mosaddek Hossain Saikat was key as they beat BCB North Zone by 28 runs. They earlier clinched a 22-run victory against Islami Bank East Zone in the first match. Put into bat first, Central Zone piled up 262-5 after which their bowlers restricted North Zone to 234-9. Mosaddek struck a 55 ball-54 not out and was ably supported by Abdul Mazid’s 53. Al-Amin Hossain clubbed 43 off 32 towards the end to accelerate the scoreboard. Central Zone lost opener Mizanur Rahman (10) cheaply before Soumya Sarkar and Abdul Mazid stabilized the innings sharing a 77-run partnership. Soumya scored 40. Shakib Al Hasan then hit 33 to further pace the innings before he was dismissed by Mahmudullah Riyad.
However Mosaddek and Mazid paved the platform of a big total, combining for an 82-run partnership for the fifth wicket stand. Pace bowler Shafiqul Islam took two wickets for 71 runs in 10 overs for North Zone. Tanzid Hasan fell for just 1 as North Zone made a poor start to the chase. But Naeem Islam and Parvez Hossain Emon helped the side hit back with an 86-run partnership.
