Court Correspondent :The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka on Sunday issued one more warrant of arrest against BNP Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman in a defamation and sedition case filed against him for his remarks about Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.Magistrate Md Wais Kuruni Khan Chowdhury issued the arrest warrant after hearing a petition filed by M Abdul Mannan, General Secretary of the Hawkers’ League. Earlier, on Thursday, he filed another defamation and sedition case against Tarique, elder son of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman and present BNP Chief Khaleda Zia, and 500 BNP men, including three senior leaders of the party, with Dhaka’s CMM Court for his derogatory comments. BNP Chief’s Adviser Mir Mohammad Nasir Uddin, the party’s Joint Secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and International Affairs’ Secretary Majedur Rahman were also made accused in the case. Meanwhile, five other defamation cases were lodged against Tarique Rahman with the courts of Chuadanga, Munshiganj, Bogra, Sylhet and Bhola on Sunday.On Thursday, Magistrate M Yunus Khan of the CMM Court of Dhaka issued a warrant for the arrest of Tarique Rahman after M Mostafizur Rahman Dulal, a member of Dhaka Bar Association, filed a similar case against Tarique Rahman for his defamatory remarks about Bangabandhu.On December 15, BNP Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman called Sheikh Mujibur Rahman a “big Razakar” for alleged disbanding Awami League. Tarique also termed it a “party of thugs”, and claimed that Bangabandhu’s family had no contribution for independence of the country.The case statement says, while addressing a discussion marking the Victory Day of Bangladesh in London on December 15, Tarique said, “Awami League claims that it’s a party of independence, but it’s Sheikh Mujib who had banned Awami League.” On December 10, another court of Dhaka issued an arrest warrant against Tarique Rahman also in a defamation case filed for calling Bangabandhu “Pakbandhu”.Tarique has been staying in London since September 11, 2008 for his medical treatment. He was then released on parole in several cases.
