Court Correspondent :
The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka on Sunday deferred the deadline for submission of the probe report about technical glitch of a Biman Bangladesh Airlines’ plane that was carrying the Prime Minister to Hungary.
The Counter Terrorism Unit of Police has been investigating the incident. Investigation Officer and Inspector Mahbubul Alam was scheduled to submit the report to the CMM Court on Sunday, but he sought more time to submit the report. The court accepted the plea and fixed March 29 the new date.
On Nov 27 last year, the Boeing-777 aircraft carrying Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to Hungary made an emergency landing at Turkmenistan’s Ashgabat Airport after sensing drop in fuel pressure in one of the engines.
Sheikh Hasina waited at the airport’s VIP lounge when
the plane was being repaired to make it fit for the journey. The plane ‘Ranga Prabhat’, carrying 99 passengers, was at the airport for four hours before it took off for Budapest. Three separate inquiries were made into the incident.
The probe of Biman found, ‘human error’ that caused the glitch. Later, nine of Biman officials were suspended in this connection. Biman lodged a case against them.
They are Biman Chief Engineer (Production) Debesh Chowdhury, Acting Chief Engineer (Inspection and Quality Control) SA Siddique, Acting Chief Engineer (Maintenance and System Control) Billal Hossain, and Engineering Officials SM Rokonuzzaman, Samiul Haque, Lutfer Rahman, Milon Chandra Biswas and Zakir Hossain, and Technician Siddiqur Rahman. All of them were arrested and later the Counter Terrorism Unit experts took them into their custody and interrogated them.
