More than 200 doctors have been infected with coronavirus so far in the country, according to a tally of the Bangladesh Doctors Foundation.
“Infected doctors are both from government, private and specialised hospitals, Nirupam Das, Chief Administrator of the Foundation, told The New Nation.
The main reason behind the high rate of infection among doctors and other health workers in Bangladesh are the “poor quality” of personal protective equipment (PPE) provided to doctors, community transmission of the virus and patients’ concealment of Covid-19 symptoms, he noted.
Apart from doctors, nearly 150 healthcare workers including nurses were infected with the virus so far.
