Women leaders in the day-long eleventh district-conference of Bangladesh Mohila Parishad (BMP) at Barisal on Thursday demanded more seats and direct election for females in national assembly.
Norwegian Ambassador attending as guest of honour in the conference praised the advancement of women in different sectors of Bangladesh.
The day long programme styled as ‘skilled, experienced and ideal leadership needs to face challenges of 21st century’ included procession from Ashwini Kumar Hall to Barisal Auditorium, flag hoisting, discussion meeting, and council session at the auditorium.
Rabeya Khatun, BMP district president, presided over the programme.
It was addressed among others by Merete Lundemo, ambassador of Royal Norwegian Embassy in Dhaka, Ahsan Habib Kamal, Barisal City Corporation Mayor, Prof. Md. Ziaul Haque, chairman Barisal Education Board, Shohidul Alam, deputy commissioner Barisal , Ayesha Khanam, central president, Prof. Tulu Rani Karmakar, district vice president and Nurjahan Begum, district secretary of BMP.
More than two thousand females from different areas and sectors of the district attended the programme.
The leaders of BMP demanding direct election and more seats for females in National Assembly , said women of Bangladesh advancing every day side by side of the outer world ignoring socio-religious obstacles, superstitions, fundamentalism.
