More new entrepreneurs needed to boost economy

Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr. Atiur Rahman asked the financial institutions (FIs) to facilitate the new entrepreneurs with a view to attaining sustainable economy.
He called upon the FIs to finance more to promote the new entrepreneurs for generating employment opportunities as well as boosting country’s economy, said the governor while addressing a seminar on ” Story of Life and Economy” at the premises of Readers Forum, Rajshahi University on Saturday. Rajshahi University Readers Forum organized the seminar.
The governor asked both the public and private sector bankers to put in their best efforts for creating new entrepreneurs. Bangladesh Bank is encouraging commercial banks to disburse more loans in Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) and Agriculture sector to promote rural economy.
Lauding the role of women entrepreneurs in promoting country’s economy, the governor said their contribution is highly appreciable as they are making a commendable contribution to the economy.
The central bank is encouraging banks to distribute Corporate Social Responsible (CSR) fund to facilitate the underprivileged people across the country. The CSR expenditure of the banks stood at Tk 511 crore, said Atiur Rahman.
Green banking initiatives of the central bank is another milestone for saving the nature as well as facilitating green economy. Agent Banking already has got very popular around the world, said the governor.
President of Readers Forum Nasir Uddin Shuvo presided over the seminar. Rajshahi University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mizanuddin, University Teachers, Representatives of Readers Forum, Students from various Departments, Entrepreneurs and Bank Officials took part the seminar.
