More media focus for creating awareness about child nutrition, deaths stressed

Participants of a day-long training workshop in Barisal on Saturday stressed on more media-focus for creating awareness about nutrition, injuries and death in drowning of children.
The workshop organised by Bangladesh Press Institute held at the conference room of UNICEF Barisal divisional office in collaboration of Barisal Reporters Unity and Communication Project of UNICEF for development of Children and Women.
Muhammad Shah Alamgir, chairman of PIB, A H Towfiq Ahmed, Barisal divisional chief of UNICEF, attended the inaugural function of the workshop presided over by Nazrul Biswas, president BRU and coordinated by Mohammad Abdul Mannan, trainer PIB.
Anjuman Tahmina Ferdous, nutrition officer, Samiul Islam, district nutrition support officer, Mominunessa Shikha, child protection officer of UNICEF, Dr.Prodeep Kumar Pandey, associate professor, mass-communication and journalism department Rajshahi University, worked at facilitators of the interactive workshop.
Twenty-nine journalists working in different print and electronic media at Barisal participated in the training workshop.
The speakers, facilitators and participants of the programme stressing on more and positive focusing of women and children affair reports for creating awareness and motivation to prevent malnutrition, injuries and death in drowning of children.
They acknowledged that proper nutritional-care of mothers and children will not only increasing life span make the nation healthy, wealthy and wise, but will also decreased the neonatal, pregnant and child-delivery mortality rates and health expenditures. Injuries of children could also be prevented by creating awareness about child-raring and caring process and standard.
Drowning in water takes heavy tolls in child-death numbers than other causes and that also be prevented by teaching them in swimming with training about self-defense style.
