More expansion of savings programmes stressed

Speakers at a discussion in Rajshahi have urged the officials and other staffs concerned to put in their best efforts for more expansion of savings activities instead of relying on the city and town-based approaches.
They said the town-based approaches and activities don’t yield the desired results as they leave out a large part of the village population including huge farming families who need it most. The bankers of all the public and private level banks and other financial establishments should take the responsibility of furthermore expansion of savings activities.
They were addressing a daylong training workshop for the bankers and officers of postal department and department of savings held at the conference hall of Bangladesh Bank. District office of National Savings Bureau organized the workshop on Thursday.
Director General of National Savings Directorate (NSD) Mahmuda Akhtar addressed the session as the chief guest with Shah Jahan Ali, Regional Deputy Director of NSD, in the chair. General Manager of Bangladesh Bank Sheikh Abdullah, Director (Administration) of NSD Ayezuddin Ahmed, Director (Budget and Planning) Abu Taleb, Director of Postal Savings Bank and Insurance Postal Department Mokhtar Ahmed, Deputy General Manager of Bangladesh Bank Moin Uddin Ahmed and Deputy Director Taif Uddin Ahmed Bhuiyan spoke as special guests.
They discussants defined that due to lack of proper policy various illegal and unauthorized companies and organizations like hallmark and destiny are getting scopes of looting and plundering millions of public money, which is painful for the entire nation.
They urged the government to take punitive measures against those who are involved in the malpractices.
Encouraging the banks to the school banking, Mahmuda Akhtar said that the deposited money under the school banking product will help not only accelerate financial inclusion and financial literacy across the country, but also have financial stability because such deposits remain stable at the banks for a certain period of time.
