Former Director Generals (DGs) of Bangla Academy stressed the need for giving priority to creativity and improving standard of the activities of this national institution.
They were speaking at a function marking the 63rd founding anniversary of Bangla Academy at its Abdul Karim Sahitya Bisharad Auditorium in the city on Monday evening.
Recalling their memories while working at the organisation, the former DGs said the Bangla Academy has developed gradually with the hard work of its former and current employees for the improvement of the nation’s language, culture, politics, literature and science.
Former DG of Bangla Academy and eminent poet Mazur-i-Mawla said, “All the people with whom I had worked at Bangla Academy were brilliant, hard working, and committed to the nation. They did not only set up the organization, but also established themselves in different arenas.”
Speaking on the occasion, another former DG of the organization and also national professor Rafiqul Islam said, “Bangla Academy was established in line with the 21-point package programme in the election manifesto of the Juktofront.”
“A ‘Nazrul Room’ was established when I was the Director General (DG) of the academy,” he said and demanded reestablish the room if it is currently not available.
Former DG Prof Harun-or-Rashid demanded the status of a constitutional post for the DG of the Bangla Academy.
