More actress and showbiz models have come under the scanners of intelligence agencies, which are probing celebrities’ involvement in drug trade and blackmailing.
Several models and actresses of Dhaka Showbiz have already been arrested by the RAB and police on charges of involvement in drugs and pornography.
Meanwhile, it has come up in the media that the RAB is keeping a special watch on dozens of other model-actresses. The list includes so-called models Nayla Naeem, Shubha, Manshi, Parsha, Ahona, Mridula, Maury and Anchal.
According to the RAB, these suspicious models and heroines are under strict surveillance. They could be arrested at any time. Another actress Shirin Shila is also on the RAB watch list.
On Wednesday, RAB arrested actress Pori Moni and producer Nazrul Islam Raj.
The DB Police on Friday night released acclaimed Bangladeshi teleplay maker Chayanika Chowdhury hours after arresting her from Panthapath area of the city because of her “well-acquaintance” with arrested actor Pori Moni.
Earlier, Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (DB) raided two separate houses in the capital and arrested two models Faria Mahbub Pias and Maryam Akhter Mou.
Sources said, not only the heroine or female model, but also some heroes are on the scanner of intelligence agencies for their link in pornography and drugs. In this issue, the Director of the Intelligence Branch of the RAB, Lt. Colonel Khairul Islam said, “Apart from Pori Moni, several model-actresses have been charged with banned pornography.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Film Artists’ Association has suspended the membership of actress Simon Hasan Eka, arrested in a case of domestic violence and Pori Moni, arrested on the charge of drug case.
Besides, the membership of film club of producer Nazrul Islam Raj has been suspended. He was the Associate General Secretary of the club. The president of the club, filmmaker Omar Sunny, has confirmed the suspension of his membership.
It is mentionable that five actor-actress of the country’s cinema including popular Dhaka film actress Pori Mani, producer Nazrul Islam Raj, two models Faria Mahbub Piasa and Maryam Akhter Mau and Helena Jahangir, who was dropped from the Awami League sub-committee, are currently in CID custody.
CID Additional Superintendent of Police Azad Rahman confirmed the matter to the media that the CID has got the documents of the accused and the cases. The remanded accused are being questioned.
