Ehsanul Haque Jasim :The panic of arrest is now prevailing among the leaders and workers of the BNP and its alliance partners, including the senior leaders, as the central leaders are now being arrested one after another. A number of the central leaders have already gone into hiding to avert arrest. Cell phones of most of the leaders remain cut off.Some of the leaders have already been arrested after beginning of the on-going countrywide blockade programme since January 6. BNP joint secretary general and former MP of Noakhali Mohammad Shahjahan, BNP’s assistant office secretary Shamimur Rahman Shamim and its executive committee member Belal Ahmed were arrested on Monday. The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained Mohammad Shahjahan and Belal Ahmed from Gulshan area in the morning, while Detective Branch (DB) of Police picked up Shamim from Dhanmondi area in the afternoon. The three BNP leaders were taken to the DB headquarters after the arrest. RAB said that they arrested the BNP leaders, as they came to know that the two leaders were conspiring against the government.
