UNB, Dhaka :
Despite repeated attacks on policemen, the morale of the law enforcers is still high and they are now more vigilant on streets, said Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Friday.
“We’re enhancing the capability of the police. Their morale has not been sapped by an inch. It still remains high and the law enforcers are more careful on the streets,” he said.
The minister was talking to reporters after attending the certificate distribution ceremony of a training programme at the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society headquarters in the city.
Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh
(CRAB) and International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) jointly organised the training programme on First Aid Training for crime reporters. Facilitated by Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, 40 CRAB members were given training at the programme.
Reiterating that there is no existence of IS in Bangladesh, the Home Minister said anti-liberation forces are behind the killings of foreigners as well as policemen.
He also claimed that those assassinated Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, those wanted to kill Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the August 21 grenade attack and those carried out the August 17 serial bomb blasts in 63 districts were trying to foil the execution of verdicts in war crimes cases.
“They (anti-liberation forces) think they’ll be able to escape after destabilising the country. But I clearly tell you all the verdicts will be executed as they couldn’t stop the trial of murders through killing people and police,” Asaduzzaman added.
About the so-called ‘boro bhais’ involved in the killing of Italian citizen Tavella, he said their names will be disclosed within the next couple of days.
Asked about the progress in cracking the Ashulia policeman killing, the minister said inquiry committees have already been formed to look into it. “On completion of investigation, it’ll be made public who were behind the incident and what were their motives.”
Vice-Chairman of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society Dr Habibe Millat, MP, head of delegation of ICRC in Bangladesh Christin Chitola and CRAB president Isaraf Hossain Essa, among others, addressed the function.
