Moral Decay

How Ready We Are To Mend It

Md. Azgar Ali :
We, as a member of global-society, need a system of morals and values in place. We have effect on others, and others also have effect on us. We should help make our society better as well as the lives of our families and friends. Without moral conduct, society would be a miserable place. When we make immoral decisions, we tend to feel uncomfortable and concerned about our decision making. Again making the right moral decision or taking a principled perspective on certain issue reduces stress in human mind. By being moral, we enrich our lives and the lives of those around us. It’s especially important to live a moral life when we are young, as it is helpful to exercise and practice these concepts before being confronted with more complex issues. We all know that theft, robbery, snatching, looting, robbery, murder, brutal murder, rape, gang rapes, kidnapping, forcible occupation of other people’s property, drug trafficking, etc. are many other crimes that human society commits every now and then.
In situations where life is in jeopardy, people often try to control their bad behavior for fear of life. They don’t play a role when the fear disappears again. It is the experience of growing up that tempts a person to commit a crime. And the biggest problem is lack. If he is financially destitute, then all his crimes will be money-centric. Those who are interested in sexual harassment will commit more such crimes including rape, violence against women and child abuse. Among the most shocking recent incidents are the gang-rape of a bride tied to her husband in the dormitory of MC College in Sylhet, the torture and rape of a housewife in Noakhali which shook conscientious people across the country.
Now morality is almost exiled. The erosion of human values has reached a climax. Our social degradation did not happen in one day. It’s not too late; these have to be considered. Day by day the values have eroded. Humanity is lost. In the society now seniors and juniors have no love for each other. No respect and no sympathy and there is no devotion and courtesy towards the elders. It can be said that the place of etiquette is almost disappearing from the country and the society. And it has been often said, our current culture is largely responsible for this.
The so-called big brothers of the society give arms and drug to the younger ones. It should be bear in mind thathuman civilization did not develop overnight. This civilization has been established through the creation and success of human beings throughout the ages. But the gruesome images of some recent events remind us whether we are inhabitants of a civilized society or an alien. There is nothing equal to the dignity of life. Nothing is its substitute.
It is high time everyone took necessary initiatives to curb the spread of moral decadence. Family should practice good manners and values which is worthy of emulation, likewise, parents should prioritize the upbringing of their children. Ethics is prescriptive, not descriptive. Ethics teaches us what we ought to do, not what we do. We ought to treat others with kindness, compassion, respect, and so on. Ethical studies should be introduced into the school curriculum and taught to students. The government should ensure quality education and the preservation of the future of the youth. Decadence among youth can be controlled by engaging law enforcers to monitor youth with previous record of delinquency. We should be bear in mind that our child should be brought up, not just to respect his own religion, but also to understand that every person has the right to choose his/her religion. We should teach our children from a young age that all humans are equal, regardless of their religion or the festivals. No society can exist without a moral foundation. Moral documents that govern human society as a good behavioral force should not just be left on paper. The ongoing practice of moral principles by members of a society is a necessary condition for a society’s stability and prosperity. Honesty and conscience should be the driving force of youth. Last but foremost, maintaining awareness is essential. It also needs to be used in everyday life. We do not think that there is any other way to bring the air of moral awakening.
