Moral decadence must be impeded to prevent teacher killings

Prof. Dr Md Mahmudul Hassan :
I’m shocked, I’m stunned, I’m ashamed to know that the student has killed his teacher with his own hands! Teachers are the architects of the nation. What did Utpal Kumar Sir do with the so-called student! He ruled and wanted to stop him from doing indecent acts, right? Is it his fault that he tried to teach him morality, which his parents failed? But a teacher, the spiritual parent of the student, who cares for the students, rules to make them ideal humans. But alas! This ideology was killed through killing and insulting teachers.
This is not the first time that a teacher has been killed in this country. Moreover, the chapters of insult, contempt, torture, slander and deprivation of teachers are being repeated all the time in our country. The murder of Utpal Kumar Sarkar, a teacher at Haji Yunus Ali School and College in Ashulia, Savar, near Dhaka, proved once again a gruesome picture of the moral decadence of students on campus. This incident is not just a matter of teacher-student relationship. It must be seen as an obstacle to the progress of the society. It should be seen as a dirty sign of dragging society backwards.
We are probably at the extremity of our moral catastrophe; Social unrest is increasing day by day due to lack of moral values. How many people have to be killed for trivial events or petty interests! Immorally, we are desperate to pursue our own interests.
The decay of morality and values in daily life is increasing day by day; If the reins are not pulled, the nation may have to pay an extreme price. If we do not take appropriate steps to overcome this situation now, we as a nation will reach the brink of destruction.
In a country where a student is insulting his teacher in public in daylight, brutally killing him, where, no one to judge, we can easily understand the morality of the people of that country. Probably a factor as to why they’re doing so poorly. The parents of our country do their utmost to develop the child as a meritorious student; But how much do we try to make him a better person?
We just run after the children get GPA-5. In our education system, many subjects are included in the curriculum but very few subjects related to ethics and human values are included. We teach children from an early age that they are gifted; But don’t become a good person.
We have to find a way out of this terrible situation of moral catastrophe. For this, a proper system and application of moral education is required. The curriculum should have specific policies and implementation strategies for moral education. In this case, we can use the experience of the Japanese education system. The Japanese are known as a nation with an orderly and amiable character with moral and human values. Moral education is a big part of Japan’s education system. Their belief is first ethics, then text education. In Japan, up to the age of 10, that is, up to the class four, special attention is paid to the physical, mental and moral development of children without examination of any kind of biblical subject.
The first three years of school life are not for merit verification; Rather, politeness, humility, courtesy, patriotism and justice are taught. The Japanese are world famous for their humility, politeness or ethics. Not only to grow in age, but also to have the traits of humanity reflected in their character and to be established as ideal human beings; At this time only this attempt was carried out. In Japan, teaching children etiquette as well as schooling is considered very important. Respect for elders, extending a helping hand to people, working together, etc. were inculcated in the minds of the Japanese at an early age.
Utpal Sir was known as an ideal teacher in his college. As he was in charge of the discipline of the institution, ensuring the safety, decency, ethics and ideal education of all the students was another additional task besides his teaching. As a meritorious student who passed from Chittagong University, the students were very happy in his teaching activities. His acceptance among the students was at its peak. The people of the college administration also lived very well with him and they could have relied on him with the responsibility of maintaining the discipline of the college. But what a cruel irony of fate! Such a teacher had to give his life in the hands of a student of his college! As a teacher, I am very ashamed and speechless. As a teacher, I strongly condemn it.
At this critical juncture in our lives, we need to think about the moral discipline of students on campus and their family education. As we all know, every student gets lifelong learning from his family. If there is a mistake in family education, the teachers in the campus have to pay compensation. Therefore, parenting for the children should be authoritative and accountable from childhood. If a child receives good training from the family in manners, politeness, discipline, manners, self-respect, selflessness, etc., then the child will come to his school and practice them and the teachers will help him to become an ideal human being with advanced education. Will be able.
Teacher is a skillful craftsman. When the children are admitted to the school, the teachers light the lamp of knowledge with their affectionate hearts and each of them becomes a shining star in the glory of family and society. A teacher, he is not just a master of book-based knowledge, he is a great hero in building a bright future for students. Starting from personal life, a teacher guides the students in their overall life. When the culture of family education is reflected in school life, the teacher can nurture them and make them work in real life. As a result, all kinds of human qualities like politeness, courtesy, discipline, respect for each other, respect for parents and teachers are awakened in them. And all of these are moral teachings and values, the decline of which leads to extreme chaos and barbaric events in personal, social, family, political and state life.
So, we need to be aware now, how to establish peace in the family and the campus. Through the application of rules in education management, education administration and educational institutions, it is necessary to create some teaching habits and moral practices in the daily education program so that the students become disciplined, ideal and incomparable in the sweetness of great character. I believe that if parents, teachers, education managers and education administrators work together to prevent moral decay in one way or another, then such vicious and brutal acts will no longer be carried out in the schools, rather, the school premises will become a symbol of peace, discipline and ideals. Therefore, let’s all work together to impede moral decay and prevent teacher killing from the educational institutions.
