Amid much enthusiasm, the month- long Muktijuddher Bijoy Mela-2021 began from today afternoon at the Outer Stadium in Chandpur. The day coincides with Chandpur Free Day. On 8 December in 1971, Chandpur was freed from the hands of Pak occupation forces who managed to flee by air and water routes early hours on the day.
Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni was the chief guest on the occasion while veteran and valiant Freedom Fighter of the district Faridganj Paura Mayor Abul Khayer Patwary formally inaugurated the mela.
Valiant wounded Freedom fighter and Chairman of the Bijoy Mela Steering Committee MA Wadud chaired the function while DC Anjana Khan Majlish was the special guest on the occasion.
Chairman of the Mela Committee Advocate Badiuzzaman Kiron, Secretary General and Cultural activist Harun Al Rashid among others spoke on the occasion. There are 110 stalls in the mela. Numerous stalls are around the mela.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni has called upon all to be alert about the anti-Liberation War forces who are still out to hatch conspiracies against our country’s on- going spectacular development works all over the country led by the Prime Minister Sk Hasina. He has called upon all to follow health rules and wear mouth masks as still Corona pandemic is prevailing across the country. Later along with the guests went round different stalls in the mela.
