Monsur Ali Sikder has joined as the Secretary (In-Charge) of the Ministry of Railways on 14th September 2014. Prior to joining as Secretary, he was the Chairman of Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC). Sikder completed his graduation in Civil Engineering from the Khulna Engineering College (present KUET) in 1981and started his official career.
He joined the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) 1982 Batch (Public Works) and promoted as the Deputy Secretary in the year 2003. Prior to this he worked as a lecturer of KUET, Assistant Engineer of Bangladesh Water Development Board, Upazila Engineer of LGED and Executive Engineer of Public Works Department.
He obtained 1st Class in BSc. Engineering (Civil). He also got the MBA degree and successfully completed NDC course from the National Defence College.
He travelled many countries in Asia and Europe for official purpose. Monsur Ali Sikder hails from Bakherganj Upazila of Barisal district.
