Three more ultra-modern and sophisticated mobile harbour cranes have reached Mongla Sea Port on Wednesday by a ship named Imki carrying Italian national flag for the port. The ship not only carried the cranes but also carried 80 packages containing valuable small machinery parts of the cranes.
Rear Admiral Mohammad Musa, Chairman of Mongla Sea Port Authorities disclosed, new equipments are being added to Mongla Sea Port regularly in order to increase its (Port) capacity and to modernize the same. The Chairman added, for its regular multifarious development activities the foreigners are now being interested to use the port. By this time Mongla Port which once became a loosing concern has already become a profitable one. At present the Port after overcoming it’s all the complexities and problems has got a new life and consequently, its income has increased to a great extent. The Chairman of Mongla Port Authorities further added, the concerned authorities have already taken a project of about Tk.700 crores for its (Port) overall development.
Shawkat Hossain Milon, representative of Alsis Shipping Ltd, the local shipping agent of the ship told, the ship Imki left Rockstroc, a Sea Port of Germany carrying 3 most modern and sophisticated mobile harbour cranes for Mongla Sea Port one month ago. He added, those 3 (modern mobile harbour) cranes were made by Liver Company of Germany and each of them weighing 300 metric tones. The cranes were supplied to Mongla Sea Port by Saif Power Ltd.
Mohammad Shohel Rana, Executive Engineer of Mechanical and Electricity department of Mongla Port Authorities told, those three imported mobile harbour cranes will be connected with the jetties of the Port. He added, they will be able to handle all the containers of a12-rows container ship its arrival at the port. All those mobile harbour cranes weighing 1,332 metric tones cost a sum of Tk.120 crores. It is expected by the Port Authorities that those imported 3 mobile harbour cranes will be unloaded within the next five days from the ship Ikmi and then they will be installed to the jetties of the Port by the German engineers for operation. The Executive engineer (of the Mechanical and Electricity department) of the Port Authorities added, it is mentionable her that on June 15, 2021 such 2 more modern and sophisticated mobile harbour cranes were imported by the Port Authorities.
