Mongla Correspondent :
Mongla Customs Authority has called tender on Monday for auction of 364 recondition cars that was imported by violating existing laws.
These cars have been in the port yard for a long time for not getting the permission of the Ministry of Commerce.
For raising the price and additional tax , the importers failed to take the cars from the port that causes a huge loss to the importers.
While talking to Customs Commissioner of Mongla Port K. M. Wahidul Alam said that importers have failed to take delivery of the car in due time, customs authority has decided to auction as per customs rule.
He has also informed that a large number of buyers has dropped tender in the auction and the car will be sold with a reasonable price.
On the other hand , the owner of the importer Farm Sinwa Automobiles Captain Md. Rafiq has told the newsmen that for applying new duty on imported cars and the same duty for new and old car , the price of the reconditioned has increased . For this the importers failed to receive the car from the port by paying govt. duty.
He has also told that though the trade rules permited to import five- year old car, but the Ministry of Commerce has stopped this process for two years that increases the presence of too many cars in the port yard and this policy will discourage the importer to import reconditioned cars.
Before that , an effort was taken to auction for 2136 cars on 23 July, 2014 but it was stopped for Ministry of Commerce and Finance Ministry . After four months of that problem ,Customs Authority has decided to auction for selling this cars.
