A brilliant century by national coloured Mominul Haque enabled Islami Bank East Zone Prime to take a 83-run lead against Prime Bank South Zone in the 2nd day of the four-day 4th Bangladesh Cricket League at the Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium in Cox’s Bazar on Thursday.
Replying to South Zone’s first innings total of 262 runs, East Zone resumed the first innings with zero for no loss in two overs and finally piled up a good total of 345 runs for 5 in 96 overs when the bails were drawn for the 2nd day (Thursday).
After the departure of two openers–Imtiaz Hossain (8) and Liton Das (19) — for 33 runs in 15 overs, one down Mominul Haque pairing with number four Tasamul Haque carried the team total to a respectable position contributing 156 runs in the 3rd wicket stand.
Tasamul Haque again partnering with Zakir Hasan added another useful 99 runs in the 5th wicket stand.
Top order national batsman Mominul Haque made a century scoring 112 runs off 118 balls hitting 15 fours and one six, number six batsman Zakir Hasan contributed an unconquered 92 runs off 129 balls with nine fours and three sixes while Tasamul Haque scored a patient 209-ball 87 runs featuring nine fours and one six.
Yasir Ali also remained not out scoring 34-ball 20 runs hitting three boundaries.
Veteran spinner Abdur Razzak claimed two wickets for 141 runs.
Earlier on Wednesday, batting first after winning the toss, South Zone faced initial batting collapse losing top three wickets of Fazle Mahmud (17), Anamul Haque (11) and Shahriar Nafess (18) for 48 runs in 14.2 overs, but Tushar Imran pairing with Mosaddek Hossain saved the team from an awkward situation contributing 147 runs in the 4th wicket stand.
Former national cricketer Tushar Imran came to bat in number four and hammered a polished 78 runs off 145 balls hitting 10 boundaries while number five Mosaddek Hossain scored 108-ball 65 runs, featuring four fours and a six.
Abu Jayed grabbed four wickets for 62 runs while Iftekhar Sajjad took three for 67 runs.
In the day’s other league match, Walton Central Zone took a comfortable 115-run lead over BCB North Zone on the 2nd day of the four-day match at the Academy ground of Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium in Cox’s Bazar on Thursday.
Central Zone resumed the first innings with over night total of 243 for 8 in 73 overs and were all out for 260 runs in 85.4 overs with night watch batsman Mohammad Sharif (46) folded his innings 48 runs hitting four fours and two sixes.
Besides, Zahid Hossain (15) and Mosharruf Hossain (14) were other main contributors for Central Zone, apart from Sharifullah’s (46), Shamsur Rahman (34), Shuvagoto Hom (34) and Tanveer Haider (33) runs.
In reply, North Zone opened the first innings on Thursday and were bundled out for 168 runs in 65.1 overs with middle order Naeem Islam contributing 61 runs off 124 balls including nine boundaries.
Besides, Junaid Siddique (28), Farhad Hossain (22), Nazmul Hossain Shanta (13) were the other contributors for North Zone.
Mohammad Sharif grabbed four wickets for 59 runs while Mosharraf Hossain captured three wickets for 55 runs.
Central Zone opened the 2nd innings in the afternoon and scored 23 for 1 in 15 overs with Marshall Ayub was in batting with 12 runs.
Taijul Islam bagged the lone wicket conceding 2 runs.
