he solo painting exhibition titled Impression of Surroundings 5 by artist Mohammad Mohiuddin Ahmed is going on at La Galerie, Alliance Française de Dhaka (AFD) in the capital’s Dhanmondi area.
Eminent artist Professor Hamiduzzaman graced the occasion as the chief guest, while Md Emdadul Hoque, Additional Secretary (retd), Ministry of Finance, also attended the opening ceremony as the special guest on the occasion.
Born in Banimardon, Muladi, Barishal, Bangladesh in 1976, Mohammad Mohiuddin Ahmed has long been viewed as an art activist of the country, having practice with his own style of painting. He finished MFA from UODA (University of Development Alternative) in 2004. In the exhibition Impression of Surroundings 5, the artist is showcasing new artworks from recent painting series.
Artist Mohiuddin Ahmed is influenced with his surroundings and eventually it came out through an interpretation of his artistic way.
While talking about his artworks Mohammad Mohiuddin Ahmed said, “I am influenced with my own surroundings and my visible world that are impinging on my conscious as well as subconscious mind. And with time and deliberation, an interpretation that I cannot help interpreting emerges. The paintings in this exhibition are thus the fruitage of my surroundings.
“It is said that life is no bed of roses; but I think, like the texture of the corrugated paper, life has its ups and downs, it’s beautiful moments and of course its bumps that may crash and burn life itself. That nuanced human condition is what I try to put forward in my paintings. My paintings do not jump out and shout a boilerplate message to every observer. The observer having his or her own idiosyncratic rubric of life interprets my paintings in his or her own way – such is the transcending way of abstract art,” the artist also said while describing his artworks.
The exhibition will continue till October 26.
