Chttagong Bureau :A court in Chittagong relieved former city mayor and President of Chittagong City Awami League ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury from a corruption case following directives of the High Court.Chittagong Metropolitan Session Judge SM Mujibur Rahman signed the release order to relieve Mohiuddin from the case filed for ‘illegally’ decreasing holding tax of city’s Nupur Market building.Court sources said, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case against Mohiuddin during his mayoral period in 2003 on charges of illegally’ decreasing holding tax of Nupur Market building at city’s station road area.The case statement said Mohiuddin made loss of about Tk 12 lakhs for Chittagong City Corporation through illegally decreasing the holding tax of the building.Later, the High Court relieved Mohiuddin from the case following his appeal in 2012.Mohiuddin’s lawyer Advocate Roni Kumar Dey said the court signed the release order on Thursday as the High Court order reached before the court recently.
