Despite a century by Ziaur Rahman, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club suffered a five-wicket defeat against Dhaka Mohammedan SC in the 3rd round super league match of the Walton Dhaka Premier Division Cricket at BKSP ground-4 in Savar on Tuesday.
With the day’s feat, Dhaka Mohammedan shared the 4th place in the six-team super league toppling Sheikh Jamal securing 16 points from 14 matches while Sheikh Jamal DC, with three successive defeats in the super league, went down to the 6th slot with 14 points from 14 matches.
Batting first in the day’s match, Sheikh Jamal were all out for 197 runs in 45 overs.
National coloured all-rounder Ziaur Rahman hammered a century scoring 103 runs off just 85 balls hitting six fours and nine sixes and was adjudged man of the match although his team lost the match.
Mahmudul Hasan (not out 22), Elias Sunny (21) and Mahbubul Karim (15) were the other leading scorers for Sheikh Jamal.
National spinner Taijul Islam picked up three wickets for 49 runs while Subashis Roy and Sajedul Islam took two wickets each conceding 25 and 37 runs respectively.
Chasing a target of 198 runs, Dhaka Mohammedan easily reached their ultimate goal scoring 201 runs for 5 in 30.2 overs with opener Shamsur Rahman making 58-ball 59 runs, hitting six fours and two sixes.
Besides, Indian Bipul Sharma (38), opener Shykat Ali (37), Rony Talukder (32) and captain Raqibul Hasan (21) were the other notable contributors for the Mohammedan SC.
Elias Sunny captured two wickets for 48 runs while Tanbir Hyder, Mehedi Hasan Rana and Mohammad Shakil took one wicket each.
Meanwhile, day’s other league match between Gazi Group Cricketers and Prime Bank Cricket Club was abandoned due to unplayable ground at Khan Saheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah.
Gazi Group Cricketer won the toss and invited the Prime Bank CC to bat first in a damp pitch and the bankers’ team lost one wicket without any run in the very 4th ball of the match before it was stopped for inclement weather.
However, the match will be held on the reserved day on Wednesday at the same venue.
