Dhaka Mohammedan SC earned the 2nd victory in their 3rd match of the Walton Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League beating Legends of Rupganj by seven wickets at Khan Saheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah on Tuesday, the reserved day of the match.
The league match between the two teams was shifted to the reserved day as the umpires abandoned the match without a single ball being bowled on Monday due to wet outfield following overnight rain.
Sent in to bat first in the day’s match, Legends of Rupganj were all out for 212 runs in 49.3 overs despite a 107-run opening stand by Mizanur Rahman and Junaid Siddique.
Mizanur Rahman scored the team highest 63 runs off 85 balls hitting seven fours and two sixes while national coloured opener Junaid Siddique made an expensive 64-ball 39 runs, including four boundaries.
Mosharraf Hossain hit 33-ball 24 runs with one four and a six, top order national batsman Soumya Sarkar scored 26-ball 20 runs hitting two fours and six.
Asif Ahmed (14) and Taijul Islam (12) were the other batsmen reaching the double figure.
Naeem Islam Junior made the major damage to the Rupganj innings grabbing four wickets for 48 runs in quota 10 overs and was adjudged man of the match.
Habibur Rahman claimed three wickets for 26 runs while Naeem Islam (Sr) took two for 38.
Chasing a target of 213 runs, Dhaka Mohammedan SC easily reached their ultimate goal scoring 215 for 3 with 24 balls remaining.
After the departure of openers Saikat Ali (34) and Ezaz Ahmed (26) for 84 runs in 21.1 overs, Bangladesh Test captain cum Mohammedan skipper Mushfiqur Rahim pairing with Sri Lankan Upal Tharanga guided the team to the victory scoring 106 runs in the 3rd wicket stand.
Upal Tharanga contributed the match highest 71 runs off 99 balls featuring seven fours and a six while last match centurion Mushfiqur Rahim scored an unbeaten 51 runs off 64 balls with the help of three fours and two sixes.
Number five Ariful Haque added another useful not out 24 runs off 17 balls hitting one four and three sixes.
Asif Ahmed, Abu Haider Rony and Murad Khan took one wicket each conceding 26, 28 and 41 runs respectively.
The 4th round matches of the league will be held on Wednesday.
League leader Prime Doleshwar will play Brothers Union in Mirpur, holders Prime Bank CC will meet Sheikh Jamal DC at BKSP while Abahani Limited will face Victoria SC in Fatullah on the day.
