Dhaka Mohammedan SC made a good start in the Marcel Club Cup Hockey beating Bangladesh Sporting Club by 4-2 goals in the opening match at Maulana Bhashani National Stadium here on Monday.
Rubel Hossain struck twice while Rasel Mahmud Jimi and Mustafizur Rahman Lalon scored one each for Mohammedan SC and Iqbal Nadir Prince and Belal Hossain netted one each for Bangladesh SC.
In another match of the day, Dhaka Abahani Limited, coming from behind, played to a 2-2 draw with Sonali Bank SRC at the same venue in the afternoon.
Taher Ali and Belal scored for the bankers’ team, both in the first half, while Khorshedur Rahman and Maksud Alam Habul netted one each for Abahani Limited, both in the 2nd half.
Earlier, Senior Additional Director of Walton Group FM Iqbal Bin Anwar inaugurated the tournament at a simple ceremony in the afternoon where Hockey Federation Vice President Khawja Rahmatullah was also present.
A total of nine teams, split into two groups, are taking part in the tournament.
Participating teams are: Group A: Usha KC, Dhaka Mariner Youngs Club, Sadharan Bima KS and Ajax SC.
Group B – Abahani Limited, Mohammedan SC, Sonali Bank SRC, Bangladesh Sporting Club and Wari Club.
Later, two top teams from each group will play in the semifinals.
