Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited beat their arch-rivals Dhaka Abahani Limited by 31 runs, according to the Duckworth/Lewis Method in a rain-interrupted match of the Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Legaue Cricket at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Friday.
Electing to bat first, Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited piled up a fighting total of 145 for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs and then Dhaka Abahani Limited had a target of 76 runs to win from nine overs. Dhaka Abahani Limited were restricted to 44 for the loss of six wickets in nine overs.
Shakib Al Hasan of Mohammedan played a captain’s knock of 37. His 27-ball innings was studded with two sixes and one four, while Parvez Hossain hit a run-a-ball 26 including four fours and a sixer.
Mahmudul Hasan Limon remained unbeaten with 30. His 22-ball innings saw two fours and a sixer.
Abu Hider scored 12 from seven balls.
Opener Abdul Mazid of Mohammedan made 16 using 18 balls.
Swadhin Akash of Dhaka Abahani Limited grabbed three wickets at the cost of 24 runs, while Tanzim Hasan Shakib bagged two wickets in the space of 17 runs and Mohammad Saifuddin took one wicket for 29 runs.
Later, Mushfiqur Rahim of Dhaka Abahani Limited and Najmul Hossain Shanto could reach the double digit figures. Mushfiqur Rahim remained unbeaten with 18. His 18-ball innings had one four and one six.
Shanto made 15 from 20 balls featuring two fours.
Shuvagata Hom of Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club captured three wickets in the space of 17 runs, while Taskin Ahmed bagged two wickets instead of five runs and Abu Jayed took one wicket for six runs.
After the match, Chairman of the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) Kazi Inam Ahmed said, “I expected the umpires to submit their report by the end of the day (Friday). A decision on what action will be taken is likely either late on Friday or early Saturday.”
“We saw there was a lot of excitement in this Abahani-Mohammedan game, and there were some incidents involving Shakib Al Hasan. It is unfortunate. We expect players to keep their emotions under control even in the heated moments in cricket. This is not the example we want to see from Bangladesh’s professional, international players.”
“Like international matches, we also have a playing-control team, which consists of the match referee and umpires. We expect their report by tonight. The rules are in place, so whatever comes [out], we will act accordingly.”
