Hundreds of passengers in Khagrachhari district have been facing manifold problems on daily basis as Mohalchhari Bus Terminal under Mohalchhari upazila in the district lacks necessary facilities.
Passengers, transport owners and workers said the terminal lacks facilities like passenger shed, waiting room, toilet and parking space, causing a chaotic situation everyday.
According to sources, the terminal was set up in 1985 aiming to offer the passengers a comfortable and hassle-free journey with necessary infrastructures and other facilities.
But, the passengers now face a lot of hassles for lack of sheds and other facility at the terminal.
Businessman Anup Mohajon said once the bus terminal was the centre point to communicate with Khagrachhari-Dhaka, Khagrachhari-Chittagong and Khagrachhari-Feni road. The terminal was also considered as most important for businessman but now it is place of untold sufferings for them.
In absence of sheds, passengers suffer during the rain and the sun when they wait for buses.
Many passengers claimed that they cannot wait at the terminal for vehicles for lack of passenger-shed or waiting room when the use of makeshift toilets is very embarrassing.
Besides, lack of any restaurant also increases suffering to the hungry passengers to a great extent, they added.
President of Mohalchhari Upazila Awami League Ratan Shil said they urged the authorities concerned to set up a full-fledge bus terminal for a comfortable journey of the passengers.
General Secretary of Transport Owners Association SM Shafi said that hundreds of their workers, including drivers, helpers and lines-men of all routes, suffer much due to lack of infrastructure.
He also admitted that they are failed to extend services for passengers. But he hoped that bus terminal extension work will be done during the tenure of running AL government.
When talked with the correspondent, Deputy Commissioner Md Masud Karim said they have taken a project aiming to extend Mohalchhari Bus terminal and provide better service to passengers.
“The work would be completed within shortest possible time that to easy passenger’s sufferings, DC hoped”.
