The Moghbazar triple-murder case’s prime accused Shah Alam Khandakar alias Kailla Babu was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with the members of Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) near the city’s Moghbazar Wireless Gate early Monday.
The law enforcers have also arrested Kailla Babu’s two accomplices and recovered one pistol loaded with three bullets from the spot, police said. DMP Deputy Commissioner (media) Masudur Rahman said that DB members launched a drive near the Moghbazar Wireless Gate at 4:00am following a secret information that the miscreants including Kailla Babu were staying there.
He said Kala Babu and his accomplices opened fire on the police plainclothes sensing their presence, prompting the law enforcers to fire back triggering a brief gunfight that left Kailla Babu dead on the spot and two policemen injured.
The law enforcers detained two of his accomplices and recovered a pistol loaded
with three bullets from the scene, he said.
“After talking with the arrested persons, we came to know that he was Kala Babu, the prime accused in the Moghbazar triple-murder case,” the DC said.
The body had been sent to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) morgue for autopsy and the injured DB officials had been taken to Rajarbagh Police Hospital, the police official said.
On August 28, miscreants gunned down Ranu Akhter Brishti, 28, wife of Mohammad Abul Hossain, her younger brother Hridoy’s friends namely Munna, 20, and Billal Hossain, 25, and injured another in a house at Sonalibagh in the city’s Moghbazar following a rivalry with local land grabbers and extortionists.
On August 30, brother of victim Ranu, filed a case against 15 people, including Kailla Babu, with Ramna Police Station in connection with the triple-murder.
