It is unlikely that the the construction work of the Moghbazar-Mouchak Flyover project will be completed within the schedule time, as only 40 per cent of construction has been done in 16 months of the two-year period, officials said.
But Project Director Nazmul Alam said, “We hope to finish the job in time. If it is not possible, then we will go for time extension to July, 2015,” he said.
This has been indicating that public sufferings in and around the project areas will continue unabated. Any one passing by the New Eskaton Road will gather such bitter experience that he will never forget.
The Local Government and Engineering Department (LGED) under the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) and Cooperatives officially started the project on February 16, 2013 with a two-year time frame.
The Danish and Bangladesh joint venture firm, Simplex-Navana, and the Bangladesh-India joint venture firm, MCCC-4 ACL-ODC, are engaged in the construction works, according to the project documents.
A bus driver told me on Thursday, we suffer a lot and do the passengers of our buses. Dust and traffic congestion have made our life unbearable. It takes one hour to reach Bangla Motor from Malibagh mor though the distance is of 10 minutes journey only.
A physician told me that people living on both sides of the New Eskaton Road between Bangla Motor and Malibagh might be attacked with lung and heart related infection diseases. We request the Ministry of Road and Bridges to instruct the construction farms to finish the work within the given time.
