Modernisation of Ctg International Airport stressed

President of Chittagong chamber of commerce & Industry Mahbubul Alam Talukder called upon the concerned authority to expand the existing runway of Chittagong International Airport, construction of new runway, abundant ground handling equipments and development of airport road aimed at facilitating the increase of foreign flights and air passengers to maximum extents.
His fervent appeal in a letter sent to the Minister for Civil Aviation & Toursim Rashed Khan Menon on Sunday.
In the letter , he said number of runways and its breadth is poor as per necessity , so the expansion of runway and new runway is essential.
He said foreign airlines facing ground service facilities properly lack of required equipments and the existing equipments are old aged.
He further said four cargo flights are handled through this airport in a week but there is only one fork lift.
He also blamed the missing of luggage from airport and misbehaviours of some dishonest customs and law enforcing officials.
The letter was also told that airport Immigration department is controlled by Dhaka-based and the postings under city SB and hence administrative complications are arising frequently.
Further he specifically mentioned in the letter that the airport road is most deteriorated and required about 2 hours to reach the airport by any passenger to cross only 25 kilometers from city.
Considering the importance of commercial capital , he urged the concerned Minister to look into the matter on priority basis, sources said.
