Farmers of the Sylhet division are showing more interest in using modern irrigation equipment.
A high official of DAE, Sylhet divisional office said the use of different types of irrigation equipment along with advanced agriculture method have been rising in the region in recent time.
Only the traditional irrigation equipment were popular among the farmers of the area. But things are getting changed in recent years. Growers are now more concerned in using the latest technologies to boost their production, said additional director of the department Krishna Chandra Hore.
During the current Rabi season, a total of 23,596 different types of irrigation equipment like deep tube-well, shallow tubewell and low lift pumps are being used in the division in addition to the use of traditional tools like Done and others numbering 36,051.
Of the total, 123 deep tube-wells are covering 5,010 hectares of land while 7,277 shallow tube-wells are covering 39,769 hectares of land. A total of 23,596 low lift pumps are covering 155,459 hectares of land in the region.
Besides, 36,051 traditional modes of irrigation are covering another 44,804 hectares of Boro lands, sources informed.
