The Ministry of Commerce as part of its efforts has formed a joint committee to simplify business process in Bangladesh and to ensure better co-ordination among the agencies concerned, Commerce ministry officials said.
Headed by commerce secretary, the export wing of the ministry has recently formed the committee with the representatives from 29 ministries, divisions and other offices and 13 trade bodies and business associations to review the issues related to doing business and trade facilitation in the country.
The sources said that the committee would identify the obstacles to simplify the business and suggest the authorities concerned for taking steps to remove those.
The committee will also review the existing programmes to simplify the business process, and recommend the authorities to determine the next course of actions in this connection, they said.
It will also instruct the agencies to ensure coordination among them and for continuation of the policies, rules, regulations and activities adopted for the purpose, they added.
“We found some obstacles in doing business with those who were hindering smooth business activities in the country for a long. The new committee has been tasked to find out problems and to recommend possible solutions accordingly,” a high official of the Ministry of Commerce told The New Nation preferring anonymity.
“As committee members, we are hopeful of a fruitful output soon,” he said.
“After identifying obstacles and removing those, we hope that doing business in Bangladesh will be much easier and friendly.”
According to him, the committee will hold meetings every three months in this connection.
Representatives from the ministries of finance, industries, agriculture, fisheries and livestock, environment, foreign, law, post and telecommunication, labour, civil aviation, local government, and shipping, Bangladesh Investment Development Authority, Export Promotion Bureau, Bangladesh Special Economic Zones Authority, the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association, among others, are included in the committee.
