Mobile internet users now 10m

The number of mobile internet users has increased by 10.48 million in a year.
Mobile phone subscribers also rose by 10.31 million during the same period until June 2015.
Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) revealed the figures in its recent report on Monday.
According to the report, mobile internet users increased to 46.89 million by June this year. The total number of internet users stood at 48.34 million, it said. The BTRC said 97 percent internet subscribers were using mobile internet. However, the number of Wimax subscribers has reduced by 0.1 million during the time to reach 0.18 million.
The number of ISP and PSTN internet subscribers has increased slightly to 1.26 million. According to BTRC, mobile subscribers at the end of June were 126.86 million, up from 116.55 million at the same period last year. Grameenphone’s subscribers increased by 3.89 million to 53.12 million, while Banglalink added 2.47 million new subscribers to reach 32.22 million. Robi saw its subscribers increased by 3.35 million to 27.38 million.
Airtel subscribers now stand at 8.74 million and Teletalk 4.21 million. Mobile-phone operator Citycell, however, lost its subscriber base.
In June 2015, it had 1.18 million subscribers after losing 0.22 million in a year.
