Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Sayeed Khokon on Wednesday said his city corporation will carry out mobile court drives against contaminated food items during Ramadan.
“Stern action will be taken if any irregularity is found. No one will be spared, whoever s/he is, if found selling tainted foods,” he said while addressing a views-exchange meeting at Nagar Bhaban with the traders of DSCC kitchen markets in the city.
The DSCC mayor urged the traders not to hike the prices of essentials illogically or tamper with the weight measurements. “There’s no possibility of price hike as there’s a balance between the demand and supply.”
Action will be taken if any one charges more prices than the officially fixed ones, he warned.
Sayeed Khokon said the DSCC will form a market monitoring committee to check all sorts of anomalies in the kitchen markets during the fasting month.
This committee will work in coordination with the monitoring committee of the Commerce Ministry, he added.
